Learning about Area

Earlier this week we started a discussion in Maths about Area. We found that area is a surface that can be measured. To measure the area of a surface, you need to cover it completely, without gaps or overlaps, using the same measuring tool.

First we measured the area one of our students would have if he was lying on the floor.

The children were then given the task of finding the area of a surface in the classroom. They chose the area they were to measure and the tool they would measure with. They chose very wisely!

Today, the children continued the investigation of area by comparing. They needed to use the language of larger/greater area and smaller area.
